Personal Profile
Sun Kai, Associate Professor, School of Biological Engineering, Dalian University of Technology; Master's and Doctoral Supervisor. Earned his Ph.D. from the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, Jilin University, with research in nanobiomedical science and biomedical photonics. Conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Washington (Seattle) in the Department of Chemistry/Department of Bioengineering under the mentorship of Professor Daniel T. Chiu, a renowned expert in analytical chemistry and bioengineering and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), focusing on nanobiomedical science and biomedical materials. Currently serves as Associate Professor at the School of Bioengineering, Dalian University of Technology.
Long-term commitment to fundamental and applied research in interdisciplinary fields such as optoelectronics, materials science, and biomedicine. Possesses extensive theoretical foundations and practical experience in biomedical engineering, biomaterials, and bio-optoelectronics. Looking toward the future vision of human-machine integration, the focus is on “wearable/implantable flexible optoelectronic devices and biomedical applications,” aiming to achieve the “monitoring, replacement, improvement, enhancement, and supplementation” of biological functions through human-machine interaction.
Over the past five years, as principal investigator, I have successively led sub-projects under the Ministry of Science and Technology's major initiative “Brain Science and Brain-Inspired Research” (Youth Program), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Youth Program, the Liaoning Provincial Natural Science Foundation General Program, the Dalian Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Fund Project, the Dalian University of Technology-Dalian Central Hospital Medical-Engineering Interdisciplinary Joint Fund Project, and commissioned projects from enterprises and institutions. Additionally, he has served as a key contributor to national key R&D projects, NSFC general projects, Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission Free Exploration Projects, Peacock Team research projects, NIH-funded projects, and enterprise-commissioned projects. Publications: Over 20 high-impact SCI papers published in internationally renowned journals including ACS Nano, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Analytical Chemistry, and Advanced Healthcare Materials. (including 10 papers with an impact factor >10 and 5 papers with an impact factor >15), which have been cited over 1,400 times in authoritative academic journals such as Nature, Chemical Reviews, and Chemical Society Reviews. Research achievements centered on “implantable optical biosensors and detection platforms” have yielded one PCT international patent application, with three national/regional authorizations granted (United States, European Union, Australia). Concurrently, related publications are advancing technology transfer and industrialization efforts. Member of the Chinese Society for Biomedical Engineering, the Chinese Chemical Society, and the Chinese Society for Biomaterials. Guest Editor for Biosensors. Member of the Technical Committee for the International Conference on Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering (ICBBE) and the International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Technology (ICBBT).
